Wreck FIshing Charters
Departing from Key Colony Beach Marina, our wreck fishing charters offer a thrilling middle ground between the reef and the deep blue. Located typically 5 to 7 miles from land—and sometimes just off the reef edge—these submerged structures in 100 to 300 feet of water act as magnets for powerful game fish. We use live bait to target strong fighting species that patrol these wrecks.
Available in four, six, and eight-hour options, wreck fishing is easily combined with reef or offshore trips, offering the perfect way to add a heavy-tackle challenge to your day. During the spring months, these trips also provide a unique opportunity to sport fish for Permit, one of the most exciting fighters in the Keys.
Heavy Hitters: Test Your Strength on the Wrecks
Wreck fishing in the Florida Keys is a specialized style of offshore angling that focuses on artificial reefs—sunken boats, airplanes, and rubble resting on the ocean bottom. These underwater structures act as an oasis in the sand, attracting massive populations of bait and predators. Unlike the anchored approach of reef fishing or the constant trolling of offshore, wreck fishing typically involves drifting near these structures with live or cut bait presented deep near the ocean floor.
Why Choose a Wreck Fishing Trip?
If reef fishing is about volume and offshore fishing is about the hunt, wreck fishing is about the fight. This is the ideal choice for anglers who want to test their strength against powerful fish without traveling far offshore. Because the wrecks are located in 100 to 300 feet of water, often just past the reef line, we can target massive fish with relatively short travel times.
The Ultimate Workout: Be prepared for a battle. Wrecks are famous for housing Amberjack, often weighing between 50 and 100 lbs. These are widely considered one of the hardest fighting fish pound-for-pound in the ocean.
Trophy Bottom Fish: While the reef offers quantity, the wrecks offer quality. This is where we target trophy-sized Mutton Snapper—some reaching over 20 lbs—as well as large Black Grouper.
Looking for the best of both worlds? Wreck fishing is the perfect “middle ground” and is our most popular add-on. A common strategy is to spend the morning catching a limit of eaters on the reef, and then stop at a deep wreck on the way back to drop live baits for a “big pull” to cap off the day.
