Captain Jason Long
Born and raised in Marathon, fl. Jason is an FSU graduate who has fished the Fl Keys waters personally and professionally his entire life. He and his wife Ann purchased Best Bet sportfishing in 2005.
Captain Mike Nealis
Mike grew up fishing the inshore waters of the keys. Capt Mike has been charter fishing for the last 8 years and joined the Best Bet team in 2009.
Captain Brian McMahon
Brian is a captain and certified dive master. He retired in 2015 as a FDNY firefighter. Has been visiting and Fishing in the keys for the last 10 years. He joined the Best Bet team as soon as he retired.
First Mate Wayne Crosby
Wayne has been fishing in the Florida keys waters for the last 7 years. Wayne joined our team in 2014.
First Mate Bill “Jersey”
Bill grew up visiting and fishing in the Florida Keys with his dad. He moved to Marathon and joined the Best Bet team in May 2016.

(Can be combined with wreck & offshore trips) Reef Boats: Island Hopper, 38′ Bertram Description: Reef fishing offers you the opportunity to catch a wide variety of delicious table far species, including snapper and grouper, as well as trophy pelagic fish like sailfish and cobia. During your reef fishing trip we will fish the shallow patch reefs (up to 40 feet) and deeper reef (up to 100) feet, where we’ll use a variety of fishing styles to entice the bite. Reef fishing is an excellent option for beginner anglers and children.
Target Species: Mutton snapper, permit, amberjack, black grouper, cobia, kingfish, sharks Trip Lengths: 4, 6, and 8-hour trips available.

Reef Boats: Island Hopper, Bertram Description: After fishing the reef, or on our way offshore, we will bottom fish with live bait from 100 to 300-feet of water for a variety of strong species including mutton snapper and greater amberjack. During the spring months wreck fishing also allows you the opportunity to sport fish for permit, which offer a fight-of-a-lifetime.

Tarpon Boats: Dorado, T-Craft Description: for over a century anglers have flocked to the Keys to do battle with fishing’s ultimate prize, the big Silver King! Tarpon fishing is not only one of the most exciting styles of fishing in the Middle Keys (we often catch fish over 100- pounds!), it’s also a great option for anglers who don’t want to spend a full day on the water and enjoy the more sporty side of fishing. Seasonal tarpon trips are offered in the mornings and evenings, where we’ll live bait fish at three of the Middles Keys bridges (Long Key, Seven-Mile and Bahia Honda).
Light Tackle Fishing

Trip Length: 4 and 6-hours trips available Light Tackle Boats: Dorado, T-Craft Description: Our light tackle trips are the perfect option for anglers who want to fish the calm waters close to shore, while still catching dinner and reeling in a variety of fun species. Light tackle trips will venture into Florida Bay, where we can target snapper, grouper, jacks, sharks, tarpon, and more. We will also fish the famous Seven-Mile Bridge for tasty mangrove snapper and grouper.

Take US-1 South to Mile Marker 54. Turn left at the Sadowski Causeway light (just after the Holiday Inn Express and Circle K). Best Bet Sportfishing boats are located in the middle of charter boat row 1/2 mile ahead on your left.
COMING FOR THE SOUTH (WEST) (KEY WEST, BIG PINE, MARATHON)
Take US-1 North to Mile Marker 54. Turn right at the Sadowski Causeway light (1/2 mile past Vaca Cut Bridge). Best Bet Sportfishing boats are located in the middle of charter boat row 1/2 mile ahead on your left.
PLEASE OBEY THE 25MPH SPEED LIMIT ON THE SADOWSKI CAUSEWAY. WE DON’T WANT YOU TO GET A TICKET BEFORE OR AFTER YOUR TRIP!

Remember island weather can be unpredictable during certain times of the year! It is best to book your trip and the day before your charter we will advise if any delays or rescheduling needs to occur.
No, you do not need a fishing license while fishing aboard on of the Best Bet boats. (Note, you will need a valid Florida saltwater license if fishing on your own boat, a friend’s boat or fishing from shore or bridge.)
There are several types of fishing trips that you can enjoy when conditions are unfavorable including fishing the shallow reefs, Hawks Channel, the Seven-Mile bridge and Florida Bay. Please note that you can do a lot yourself to prevent seasickness. Most importantly, don’t drink excessive amounts of alcohol the night before your trip. Taking one seasick tablet before bed, and half a tablet the morning of your trip, has worked for many of our customers. (please follow all directions and check with your doctor before taking any medications)
Bring whatever you wish to eat or drink. For 3/4 and full day trips we recommend that you pack lunch so you can refuel your energy for reeling in lots of big fish. In addition, we recommend you wear
sunglasses (preferably polarized) and light breathable clothing. Also, bring sunscreen and a camera.
